The 12 STEPS Of AA, Adapted For ACOA'
(As Interpreted By Some ACOA Members)
_______________________________________________________________________
E1. We admitted we were powerless over our parents' disease of G
Ealcoholism, that this disease had influenced our whole lives, and we E
Crealized that our lives had become unmanageable due to the "false" *
personality we learned from the disease.
D2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could I
Grestore us to our own inner sanity, the sanity we would have had if we 3
had not been affected by our parents' alcoholism.
E3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the 7
care of God, our Real Parent,
as we understood Him
G4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of our parents H
Fas we have them in our head (and of all the family secrets), and then C
Asaw how we have many of these characteristics, both positive and
negative, in ourselves.
E5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being, C
Athe exact nature of our parents' alcoholism and of their and our
para-alcoholism.
D6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all of these para-
alcoholic symptoms.
C7. Humbly asked Him to remove our "false" or para-alcoholic
personality shortcomings.
A8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed -- ourselves, I
Gfamilies, friends and acquaintances --, since we had, in effect, taken J
Hon the personality of our parents, and became willing to make amends to
them all.
D9. Made direct amends to ourselves, our parents, and others, J
Hwherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others, by C
letting go of the para-alcoholic personality we had internalized.
F10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong J
Hpromptly admitted it, in order to see how we act out our para-alcoholic ;
self in our lives, and to see our growth and improvement.
H11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious J
Hcontact with God, our Real Parent,
as we understood Him
, praying only C
for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
G12. Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these Steps, H
Fwe tried to carry this message to other Adult Children Of Alcoholics, 6
and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
